Speaker Halbert meets with Mori of Japan National Diet

PALIKIR, POHNPEI. May 6, 2014 – Speaker Dohsis Halbert met with and welcomed to the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia Member of Parliament, Eisuke Mori, of the House of Representatives of the National Diet of Japan and a member of the FSM-Japan Parliamentary League.
Mori is currently the Honorary President of the “Friendship Bridge Club” between Japan and the FSM. The FSM Bridge Club is an initiative by the FSM Embassy in Japan to promote activities and programs undertaken by the Embassy and the Association for Micronesia Development or AMD, a non-government non-profit organization in Japan.
Through these organizations, Mori has been very instrumental in the promotion of FSM-Japan relations and recently played an important role that hosted the Speaker and members of Congress along with national leadership to the events that celebrated in Japan the 25th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the FSM.
Speaker Halbert highlighted the anniversary celebration in Japan as a success and thanked Mori along with the government of Japan for the continuous assistance to the FSM in its nation-building efforts.  Speaker spoke of the importance the people and government of FSM attach to the historical and cultural ties with Japan, Mori’s visit being a testament to the strength of the relationship between the two nations.
To further signify the strength of the relationship between the two countries, a coconut planting ceremony was held at the end of the meeting during which Eisuke Mori planted a coconut tree on the Congress lawn.
