Last regular session of 17th Congress to convene January 7

PALIKIR, POHNPEI.  January 4, 2013 – Speaker Isaac V. Figir has notified the President that the Sixth Regular Session of the Seventeenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia will convene in Palikir at 10am on Monday January 7, 2013, three days early.
The Speaker’s letter of December 28th informed President Immanuel ‘Manny’ Mori that the session will “deliberate on pending and other matters of importance and urgency” to the nation. His letter furthers that the Congress looks forward to working with the Executive Branch to ensure a successful session.
Regular Sessions of the Congress of the FSM as amended by Public Law 13-59 are to be held three times a year:  on the 10th of January, 11th of May and 12th of September unless a different date is set by the Presiding Officer with consensus of three-fourth of the members.  The duration of a Regular Session is 20 days unless extended or shortened by Congressional Resolution.
The sessions of Congress, as usual, are open to interested members of the general public.
