Congress Passes Supplemental Budget

PALIKIR, POHNPEI, January 27, 2023. The Sixth Regular Session of the 22nd Congress adjourned sine-die on January 20, 2023 with the passage of various congressional measures among which included a supplemental budget to address ongoing programs and operations of the National Government of the Federated States of Micronesia

Congressional Act CA 22-176 amended Sections 1,2,3,8,9 & 12 of Public Law 22-153 of the FSM National Government’s fiscal year budget ending September 30, 2023 to appropriate supplemental funding in the amount of $26,193, 973 for the operations of the executive and legislative branches of the FSM Government and its agencies, to fund the Nation’s grants subsidies and contributions, and towards the Nation’s capital and human resources development.

Along with the supplemental budget, various Acts along with Congressional Resolutions were transmitted to the President prior to adjourning Sine-Die.

Congress passed CA 22-175 & CA 22-179, and changed the use and/or allottee of certain funds previously appropriated for public projects and social programs for the people of the State of Kosrae; while CA 22-181 was for the same intent directed to the state of Chuuk. Specific to Chuuk and Yap States for previous public projects and social programs for the people of those states, the Congress passed CA 22-177.

CA22-180 is to appropriate the sum of $5,600,000 from the General Fund of the FSM for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2023 for the purpose of funding public projects and social programs for the people of Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk & Yap states, and for other purposes.

CA 22-178 is to further amend Public Law No. 21-19, section 8 thereof, in order to extend the time frame to vote on proposed constitutional amendments, and for other purposes.

All the Congressional Acts have been transmitted to the President to be signed into law.
