Special National Election Set for November 12

PALIKIR, POHNPEI. October 9, 2021The Special National Election is set for November 12, 2021 to fill an empty seat in the 22nd Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia for a representative of Congressional Election District No.3 in the state of Chuuk that was vacated by the untimely passing of Senator Derensio S. Konman.

Speaker Wesley W. Simina’s declaration of a vacant seat in the Congress on September 24, launched the National Elections process among which finalized the candidates vying to be the Representative of Chuuk State’s ED No.3 in the 22nd Congress and they are:

1. Inson I. Namper;
2. Myron I. Hashiguchi; and
3. Perpetua S. Konman.

Due to COVID-19, and as was done for the General Elections in March 2021, an Emergency Elections Decree from the President suspended the Special Polling Places outside of the FSM, specifically in Guam and Hawaii with eligible voters encouraged to register for absentee ballots.

Accordingly, all mail-in ballots must be postmarked by November 12 to be accepted at the end of the work day on November 26, 2021 at 5pm.  Any mail-in ballots postmarked after November 12, 2021, will be voided and considered null.
