PALIKIR, POHNPEI. February 15, 2019 – On February 13, 2019, Chairman David W. Panuelo met with officials from the United States Embassy and the U.S. Pacific Command (PACCOM) in Palikir.
On behalf of Speaker Wesley W. Simina, Panuelo welcomed to the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia, Heather Coble, Deputy Chief of Mission from the US Embassy and Glenn Baek, U.S. Department of Treasury Liaison Officer to IndoPacific U.S. PACCOM.
Chairman Panuelo was informed that Baek’s primary mission in the region is to align USPACOM’s Counter Threat Finance priorities with the Treasury’s strategic goals for combating illicit networks enabling terrorists, WMD proliferators, and transnational criminal organizations in the Asia-Pacific region.
Additionally, Baek would be conducting a presentation to all the FSM states, led by U.S. Department of Treasury-PACOM, with an emphasis on combating financial corruption by incorporating a more robust financial assessment to identify suspicious crimes, not to be limited to the blue collar variety, but foreign and domestic white collar corruption as well.
Chairman Panuelo wholeheartedly agreed with Mr. Baek and supported the efforts of the U.S. Department of Treasury/PACOM in coordination with the FSM government to curtail and discourage illegal activities within the Nation.
