Congress Mourns the Passing of Vice President George

PALIKIR, POHNPEI. August 15, 2022.  It is with great sadness that the Congress learned of the passing of the Vice President of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Honorable Yosiwo P. George late Saturday night, August 13th 2022.

Speaker Wesley W. Simina remembered Vice President George as a man of integrity. He was an unassuming man whose extensive services to both the state of Kosrae and to the Nation spoke volumes on his behalf.  According to the Speaker, Vice President George was a “long-time colleague who was well respected by Members of the Congress for his quiet wisdom, his disciplined hard work and his devotion to the betterment of this Nation.”

The Speaker continued, “on behalf of the Congress and the people of the Federated States of Micronesia let me convey to the family, relatives and friends of Vice President Yosiwo P. George, our deepest sympathies on his passing.

To the President and the Executive Branch, I present my condolences for the loss of a top official.

I do not hesitate to say the people of the FSM because I am sure that Vice President George is universally mourned within the FSM. He is a living legend. He was the Vice President of the nation but throughout his distinguished career he held so many other important posts, in which he undoubtedly influenced our young nation: Executive Director of MICARE, Governor of Kosrae, Chief Justice of Kosrae, Ambassador to the United Nations, and more. He towered over our history. To us in Congress of course he was a long-time colleague, respected for his wisdom and hard work. He was especially appreciated for his foreign affairs expertise, and he represented the Congress in many international meetings.

“He will be missed. “
