Congress Session Remains Virtual

PALIKIR, POHNPEI. April 29, 2022– In light of recent developments with the states’ repatriated flights, the highly anticipated ‘in-person’ session of the Congress will revert to its new normal session format – live virtual sessions.  As such, the Fourth Regular Session of the Twenty Second Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia is scheduled to convene on Wednesday May 4, 2022.

The May Regular Session of the Congress is the beginning of the national government budget deliberations and by law scheduled to convene on May 11. Because of the President’s national Declaration of Emergency for the state of Yap on April 5, 2022, the Congress is mandated by the FSM Constitution to meet within 30 days of the declaration and take appropriate actions.

In compliance with the Constitution, Speaker Wesley W. Simina wrote to the President that he has “moved up the starting date for the upcoming Fourth Regular Session of the Congress to May 4, 2022, instead of the previously announced May 11.”

Accordingly, the session will be for 20 days and will follow the same protocol for virtual sessions which include a limited guest list – a practice that has become the new normal for the past two years.

The interested public is encouraged to watch the proceedings of the Fourth Regular Session of the 22nd Congress as streamed live thru the Congress website:  www.cfsm.gov.fm
