Congress Adopts Twelve Resolutions During Its 2nd Regular Session

PALIKIR, POHNPEI. October 08, 2021 (CFSM - Pohnpei Delegation) - The 22nd Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia adjourned its 2nd Regular Session on Friday October 08, 2021 with the following Congressional Resolutions.

Congressional Resolution (C.R) 22-66, was adopted to further amend the President’s Public Health Emergency Declaration by extending the Emergency Declaration to January 31, 2022.

C.R No. 22-65,extending the Second Regular Session of the Twenty-Second Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia to October 11, 2021.

C.R. No. 22-64, expressing the sincere gratitude and appreciation of the Twenty-Second Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia to Mr. Yancy B. Cottrill for his dedicated service as a staff attorney to the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia.

Adoption of C.R. No. 22-63, now sets the ceiling of the total funds estimated to be available for appropriation from the General Fund of the Federated States of Micronesia for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2022.

C.R. No. 22-61, expressing the sorrow and sincere condolences of the Twenty -Second Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia to the family of the late Honorable Derensio S. Konman who passed away on September 15, 2021.

C.R. No.22-52,confirming the nomination of Mr. Albert Falcam to serve as a board member of the Federated States of Micronesia Social Security Board of Directors representing the National Government.

C.R. No. 22-51, confirming the nomination of Mr. John Chugen to serve as the FSM National Election Commissioner for Yap State

C.R. No. 22-50, setting the ceiling of the total funds estimated to be available for appropriation from the General Fund of the Federated States of Micronesia for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2021.

C.R. No. 22-49,expressing the sincere condolences of the Twenty-Second Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia to the family and religious community of his Excellency the late Bishop Emeritus Amando Samo who passed away on August 7, 2021.

C.R. No. 22-48, which approve and accept a $1,542,201.89 grant from the United States Department of Education to fund and support the FSM Special Education Program for FY-2021.

C.R. No. 22-47, confirming the nomination of Mrs. Elina Paul Akinaga to serve as the Secretary of the Department of Resources and Development of the FSM Government.

C.R. No.22-38,which confirmed the nomination of Mr. Marcus H. Samo to serve as the Secretary of the Department of Health and Social Affairs of the Federated States of Micronesia.

The following resolutions were also considered but did not meet the required votes for passage.

C.R. No. 22-13, the nomination of Mr. Johnson S. Elimo to serve as the FSM Consul General in Honolulu, Hawaii and C.R. No. 22-57, the nomination of Mrs. Jane J. Chigiyal to serve as the Permanent Representative of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United Nations.

The Second Regular Session was originally scheduled for September 13 to October 02, 2021, however it was extended to October 11, 2021 since Congress required additional time to consider a number of important issues pending before it. Those pending issues were addressed earlier than was anticipated and the session adjourned sine-die on October 8, 2021.

Unless a Special Session is called earlier by the Speaker, according to Public Law 13-59, the next session of the Congress will be the 3rd Regular Session on January 10, 2022.
