10th Special Session to review Presidential Emergency Declaration

PALIKIR, POHNPEI. March 12, 2021 – Speaker Wesley W. Simina has called for the 10th Special Session of the 21st Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia to convene via remote on March 22, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Chuuk and Yap time and 11 a.m. Kosrae and Pohnpei time.

In the previous week, a poll of two thirds of the Members voted in favor of holding a special session to address the issues pending before the Body. Therefore, pursuant to and in accordance with article IX, section 16 of the Constitution of the Federated States of Micronesia and section 201, title 3 of the FSM Code, and sections 1 and 3 of Rule 1 of the Rules of Procedure of Congress, the Speaker has informed the other Branches of the National Government along with the state governments that the 10th Special Session of the 21st Congress will convene in Palikir for ten days beginning March 22, 2020.

The purpose for of the special session is to continue to review the Presidential Declaration of Emergency in light of new developments, in addition to addressing other matters of importance to the nation.

With respect to the advisories from the State Governments and the FSM National Government discouraging public gatherings and encouraging social distancing, the 10th Special Session of the 21st Congress is closed to the general public.

The public is however invited to follow the daily sessions which are to be streamed live at the Congress website: www.cfsm.gov.fm.
