Chairman Panuelo welcomes Rear Admiral Chatfield to Congress

PALIKIR, POHNPEI. On October 09, 2017, Senator David W. Panuelo received, on behalf of Speaker Wesley W. Simina, the United States of America Ambassador Robert Riley and the new U.S. Pacific Command Representative, Rear Admiral Shoshana Chatfield.

Rear Admiral Chatfield took over command from Rear Adm. Babette "Bette" Bolivar as the U.S. Pacific Command representative to Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and Republic of Palau. She is also Commander of the U.S. Naval Forces, Marianas and Commander, Joint Region Marianas. The Rear Admiral’s visit was to meet with the leadership of the National Government and the Pohnpei State government for familiarization.

Senator Panuelo who is also the Chairman of the Pohnpei Delegation in Congress welcomed the Rear Admiral and thanked her for her role in the U.S continuing security efforts in the islands.  Their discussion touched on a variety of issues ranging from politics to fisheries and port security to veterans affairs.

Rear Admiral Chatfield and Ambassador Riley were accompanied by Deputy Chief of Mission Joanne Cummings, Captain Thomas Price and staff from the Embassy.
